On Friday, December 6th, the Northeastern Huskies faced the UNH Wildcats in a Hockey East matchup for the third time this season. The Huskies were coming off a 3-1 win over Bentley, while the Wildcats were also coming off a 6-1 victory against RIT.
The game opened with UNH striking first as Jason Siedem quickly broke away and shot it upstairs past Whitehead for an early 1-0 lead. Later in the first period, UNH would score again as Ryan Conmy slid it past Whitehead after a series of tic-tac-toe passes upfront. Three minutes after UNH’s second goal, Northeastern broke the shutout when Cam Lund banged home a rebound that came right to him, making it 2-1.
In the second period, UNH continued the scoring, netting a goal seven minutes into the frame as Marty Lavins roofed it past a sprawling Cameron Whitehead to make it 3-1. Just nine minutes later, UNH’s Marty Lavins scored again from close range for his second of the game. Following this goal, Cameron Whitehead’s night was over, and Quentin Sigurdson replaced him.
In the third period, Northeastern got on the board first as Cristophe Tellier, standing at the side of the net, was struck by a puck in the arm from a shot from the point, causing it to slip past Whale to make it 4-2. Less than six minutes after Northeastern’s goal, Dylan Hryckowian buried a rebound that came directly to him, making it a one-goal game. Just under a minute after Northeastern’s goal, UNH sealed the match as Cy Leclerc won the draw in Northeastern’s zone and then kicked the puck over to Liam Devlin, who sniped it past Sigurdson to finish the game 5-3.
The key players of the game were UNH’s Marty Lavins, who recorded two goals and four shots along with multiple big hits. Other notable players from UNH included Cy Leclerc, who picked up two assists, and Liam Devlin, who recorded one goal and one assist. For Northeastern, their key players included Cam Lund, who recorded one goal and one assist, as well as Jake Boltmann, who tallied two assists.
