BOSTON--On October 12, 2024, an attendance of 2,976 came to watch the #18 Northeastern Huskies play the Stonehill Skyhawks in their home opener. The game started with a moment of silence for Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.

The game started with Stonehill flying out of the gates right away and then 12:56 minutes into the game Stonehill’s Evan Orr put the puck past Northeastern’s goalie Cameron Whitehead for an early 1-0 lead for the Skyhawks.

Then less than 30 seconds later Northeastern answered back for a 1-1 tie with Cristophe Tellier scoring the Huskies first home goal of the season. The first period ended with the Huskies outshooting the Skyhawks 9-8.

Then, the start of the second happened, with the score tied 1-1. But it didn’t last long, with Northeastern’s Vinny Borgesi putting one past Stonehill’s Connor Androlewicz to make it 2-1 2:29 minutes into the second. That was the only thing that happened in the second, except a couple of roughing calls were called against the Skyhawks and Huskies.

There were many chances for each team and at the end of the second the shots were 19-14 in favor of the Huskies in the second period the Skyhawks' defense lockdown limited Husky chances.

At the start of the 3rd the Huskies lead 2-1 which was looking good for the Skyhawks until at 4:59 minutes into the 3rd Northeastern’s Jack Williams scored to make it 3-1 and then less then 60 seconds later Northeastern scored with Ryan McGuire scoring it for them.

This whole period so far Northeastern was in control with Stonehill only getting 2-3 shots during the times Northeastern scored and then 7:09 into the period Northeastern topped the score off with Jack Williams getting his second of the game to make the score 5-1.

A sluggish latter third saw Northeastern mostly in control and Stonehill trailing and getting a few chances but they couldn’t get the puck past Northeastern’s goalie. When regulation ended the shots were 18-35 in favor of the Huskies.

This game showed the Stonehill who finished 2-34-0 last year are definitely getting better as a team and taking the right steps to becoming a legit D1 hockey team and it also showed that Northeastern will still be a powerful team in this upcoming year.

The final line for the goalies were for Stonehill Connor Androlewicz (L) with a .857 svg with 5 goals allowed on 35 shots and for the Huskies Cameron Whitehead (W) had a .944 svg with 1 goal allowed on 18 shots.

With this the Skyhawks fought hard but couldn’t keep pace with the more experienced Huskies, who outshot and outmaneuvered them for most of the game. This win demonstrated Northeastern’s potential for a strong season ahead, while Stonehill will look to bounce back in their upcoming games.
