Jackson Cates returns to Icehogs on 1 year AHL Deal

Updated: Jul 12

The Icehogs announced earlier today that they have re-signed forward Jackson Cates to a one-year AHL contract. Cates is a 26-year-old center who originally came to Rockford last season on a PTO contract and posted 25 points in 50 games, along with one goal in 5 playoff games.

Cates figures to slot back into the middle 6 center role he excelled in last season. The former undrafted free agent gave the Icehogs a much-needed boost in the face-off circle and brings a solid defensive game that balances out a speedy, high-scoring lineup like Rockford.

It's not often to come across someone like Cates, to join the team on a PTO and put up 25 points in 50 games, making him such a valuable piece to the IceHogs team. Mark Bernard had nothing but praise for the Minnesota native, "From the moment he joined us last year, he proved to the staff to be a reliable player no matter where he played or what situation it may have been." The IceHogs are proud to have him back.
