IceHogs Hire MacNevin As Assistant Coach

Updated: Jul 18

Earlier this month, the IceHogs hired former Kelowna Rockets Assistant Coach Josh MacNevin as an Assistant Coach. MacNevin, 47, spent the last 3 seasons as an assistant in Kelowna. Originally a 4th round pick in 1996 by New Jersey, MacNevin never appeared in an NHL game. A defenseman during his playing career, he spent time in the AHL as well as Italy, Austria, Germany and Sweden.

Kelowna Rockets GM and President Bruce Hamilton stated , “We wish Josh all the best in Rockford….. We are happy to have a coach move up the ranks.”

MacNevin replaces the departing Jared Nightingale, who was hired as the Head Coach of the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays in May. Another former defenseman, Nightingale specialized in the defensive game and oversaw Rockford’s penalty kill. He assisted Rockford to a 111-84-14-7 record in his 3 years in Rockford. MacNevin will most likely take over PK and defensemen duties, along with having a large hand in the development of a top Blackhawk defensive prospect core with players such as Ethan Del Mastro, Wyatt Kaiser, Artyom Levshunov and Nolan Allan among others.
