Delta Center Seating Set For Next Season, Amid Viewing Concerns

Updated: Jul 18, 2024

When it was announced back on April 18th, that the Coyotes would be relocating to Utah, questions emerged about where the team would play. However quickly, the Delta Center, home of the NBA's Utah Jazz was named the new home for the Utah HC. How many seats will be filled for the club's games? Obstructed seating? Answers are solidified, below:

Background: the Delta Center is the current home for the Utah Jazz. Built in 1991, the venue has hosted various events other than the Jazz including the 2002 Winter Olympics, and the city's WNBA team. The arena hosts up to 18,000 seats for basketball, and up to 20,000 seats for concerts. In 2016, via the Jazz, the arena was granted 125 Million Dollars in renovations, including a brand new, state-of-the-art scoreboard.

Concerns: Just because the arena hosts 18,000 fans for basketball games, does not mean that will be the case for NHL games. Fans have questioned if the arena will be a suitable environment for games, along with the seating concerns citing the amount of obstructed views.

Answers: Owner Ryan Smyth, announced that the arena would host 12,000 fans for the 2024-2025 season. Additionally, 4,000 more seats with obstructed views. In the above picture, we can see where some of those seats could be. Renovations will happen over the course of the next few off-seasons. Including reconstructing the arena for hockey games, and revitalizing the downtown area.

The Plan, Simplified: The arena will be an upgrade from the Mullet Arena. Doubling the amount of seating, along with a recharged and fresh fanbase, ready to welcome their new team in town. 12,000 fans will welcome the Club come October and during the 2024-2025 season. Upgrades will then be made throughout the next roughly three off-seasons to total the capacity to an eventual 17,000 seats.
