PROVIDENCE--On Saturday, Nov 30, the Utica Comets (4-10-1) took on the Providence Bruins (8-8-2) in an Eastern Conference clash at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.
Utica’s goaltender Nico Daws was the star of the game as he stopped all 33 shots the Bruins gave to him.
In the opening period, Utica’s Nathan Légaré took a wrister from the left faceoff circle that went off the glove of Providence’s Micheal DiPietro to give the Comets a 1-0 lead with 8:56 remaining. The goal was Légaré’s fifth of the season and it was assisted by Ryan Schmelzer to bring his point streak to five games.
Once Sam Laberge’s penalty ended, he came right out of the penalty box, entered Providence’s zone, and then moved to the center of the ice. He slid a backhand shot past DiPietro with 3:56 left in the 2nd to make it 2-0 Comets. This marked his second goal of the season, with assists from Will MacKinnon and Daniil Misyul.
To finish the game Utica’s Adam Beckman scored an empty net goal on the power play with 2:51 left in the third period to finish the game 3-0. The goal was Beckman’s fourth of the year it was assisted by Simon Nemec.
