Bentley Takes Down #4 Maine In Portland: Inside The Ice EP:8

PORTLAND--On Sunday, December 29, the #4 Maine Black Bears hosted the Bentley Falcons at a neutral-site game at the Cross Insurance Arena. Bentley pulled off an upset, defeating Maine 4-2.


What went down?


1st Period:

Bentley took the lead early in the game when Oliver Salo scored on a rebound, putting the puck past Boija just 1:42 into the game to make it 1-0.



2nd Period:

Bentley extended their lead 3:51 into the period with a powerplay goal. Ethan Leyh tipped the puck over Boija to make it 2-0.

 

Maine responded with a powerplay goal of their own at 10:20, when Harrison Scott fired a shot from the top of the faceoff circle, beating Hasley to make it 2-1.


Seven minutes later, Bentley increased their lead when Sam Duerr fired a shot from the bottom of the faceoff circle past Boija to make it 3-1.



3rd Period:

Maine cut Bentley’s lead back to one at 11:36 when Harrison Scott scored again, firing a shot over Hasley’s shoulder.



Bentley sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Tanner Main, who scored with just 10 seconds left.


Summary:

Maine controlled the game, outshooting Bentley 45 to 19. Despite their offensive pressure, Maine couldn't break through, as Bentley's goalie, Connor Halsey, made an impressive 43 saves. However, Bentley made the most of their opportunities, with strong chances leading to 4 goals against a tough Maine team.
